Our oceans are vast, and we still know very few of their secrets. Yet we do know that the oceans store carbon, drive weather systems, feed large parts of the world and host rich biodiversity. However, we are polluting them and even trawling the fragile ocean bed in the search for food and minerals.

The oceans desperately need our protection so they can maintain their varied complex systems and environments. Continuing to raise Earth’s temperature does heat up the oceans too, and this is leading to sea level rises, transformation of marine biodiversity and disturbance of global weather patterns.
