Plants absorb carbon dioxide as they grow and our wild places can support a huge amount of biodiversity and store large amounts of carbon. But we do need to feed ourselves. Healthy soil will grow our food plants and store large amounts of carbon. However, much of our agricultural soils has been lost or degraded due to the way we have farmed in the past. We do now know how to improve and increase soils so that they store carbon while producing food and increasing biodiversity. We just need to make regenerative farming happen.

Our waterways, marshes and rivers are all really vital too, both to provide essential water and habitat, and to store carbon. But they urgently need restoration and protection. Our landscapes nurture us and our fellow creatures, and host much vital biodiversity. This truly is a story of the precious earth, which needs our respect and care.
